Pro-Biome is based on a combination of HMO (Human Milk Oligosaccharides) and specifically selected Bifidobacteria strains. As the name Human Milk Oligosaccharides suggests, these are one of the most abundant components of breast milk. Naturally, Pro-Biome's HMOs do not come directly from breast milk but are produced microbially. With an exclusive blend of HMOs 2'-Fucosyllactose (2FL), Lacto-N-tetraose (LNT), Lacto-N-neotetraose (LnNT), and 6'-Sialyllactose (6SL), Pro-Biome effectively supports your gut and microbiome while also acting on the immune system. HMOs sometimes offer the benefits of fiber and classic prebiotics by promoting the growth of beneficial gut bacteria. Unlike prebiotics, HMOs are also known for their ability to inhibit pathogenic bacteria, thus supporting the composition of the gut flora and consequently optimizing digestion and nutrient absorption. The positive effects of HMOs have not only been studied in infants but have also been demonstrated in various adult studies.
But that's not all – Pro-Biome also contains the live cultures Bifidobacteria breve B-3 and Bifidobacteria longum BB536. These are so-called endogenous bacterial strains, meaning cultures that can also establish themselves in the gut and positively influence it. Both strains come from the renowned Japanese company Morinaga Milk Industry. B. longum BB536 has been researched in numerous studies and has shown positive effects on gut health, metabolism (lowering cholesterol), and even skin health. In various studies, the B. breve B-3 strain has also been able to demonstrate effects on metabolic health, including a reduction in waist circumference.
The combination of Bifidobacteria and HMOs also has a synergistic effect, as HMOs have been shown to be utilized by Bifidobacteria as a food source.
The Pro-Biome formula is supplemented with L-glutamine, an amino acid that plays a crucial role in supporting gut health. L-glutamine supports the regeneration of the intestinal lining and intestinal cells. This is particularly important for athletes who regularly experience high stress.
